ChatGPT-4 Whats New?

ChatGPT-4 was just dropped unexpectedly and it has brought with it a bunch of upgrades and features.

So, what’s new?

PICTURES!!!!

That’s right, ChatGPT-4 can now process and analyze pictures. This adds an entire new dimension to potential inputs. They call this “multimodal” technology.

In their developer stream they showcased GPT4 accurately describing the contents of an image such as an astronaut exploring another planet. Taking that a step further, it was able to analyze a cartoon image of a squirrel to determine “What’s funny about this image?” which is a huge leap in abilities from the previous versions.

The most impressive demonstration however showcased the co-founder uploading a photo of a sketch pad where he had hand drawn a mockup of a joke website. From this image ChatGPT-4 was able to then CREATE AN ENTIRE WEBSITE  based on a picture of a simplistic sketch drawing.

While the website itself was nothing impressive, the fact that any website could be built in minutes with such basic input showcases the potential of this upgrade. It is no stretch to say that future versions of this technology will completely reshape the web design space.

Beyond this is the sheer amount of data that has gone into training 4 vs 3. It is estimated that GPT-4 is trained on 100 TRILLION pieces of data. That is 500x more than GPT-3. It also has the benefit of months of live testing with the general population which has better trained it to resist malicious prompts making it more accurate and reliable than ever.

Lastly, users can now store more data per session. GPT-3 would only remember up to roughly 8,000 words per session. The upgrade to 4 has increased this to over 32,000 words, a 4x retention rate. This will allow for longer and more complex sessions to take place without interruption and hopefully eliminate the cut-off answers that many of us regularly experience from more robust queries.

As these upgrades are brand new, there is a lot to explore and more use cases will likely be discovered in the coming weeks. In the meantime, if you haven’t started using ChatGPT, there is no better time to start.
